WhatsApp, the popular Meta-owned instant messaging platform, has rolled out a new feature that allows users to access their accounts using their email addresses instead of their phone numbers.

This upcoming feature is expected to enhance security and bring a more secure experience for WhatsApp users.

WhatsApp Could Soon Introduce Email Verification For Login

Whatsapp Email Verification

According to a report by WABetaInfo, a known WhatsApp tipster publication, the new email verification feature is currently in testing in beta. It is being rolled out to a limited number of beta testers on Android and iOS.

“With this feature, WhatsApp is bringing an additional access method to their platform, ensuring that users can sign in to their account in case they are temporarily unable to get the 6-digit code via SMS due to certain reasons,” WABetaInfo stated in its report.

After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.23.1.77 update, available on the TestFlight app, users will find a new section within their account settings called “Email address.” This feature will allow users to link an email address with their WhatsApp account.

This email address feature serves as an alternative means of access to WhatsApp accounts, especially when users do not temporarily have access to their registered phone number or are facing difficulties in receiving SMS messages.

The report further added that once the email address is verified, WhatsApp users will have the option of logging into the app using their email address, in addition to the default method of requesting a 6-digit code via SMS. However, it is essential to note that users will still require a phone number to create a new WhatsApp account.

Currently, the email verification feature is available to a limited group of beta testers who install the latest update of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app. This feature is expected to roll out to a broader audience over the coming days.
